In continuation of the staffing function, we started the lecture by discussing the advantages of staffing. Some of these include:

  • Ensuring higher productivity by placing Right Man at Right Job
  • Discovering and obtaining competent personnel
  • Helps in identifying the right personnel
  • Improves job satisfaction and morale
  • Ensuring optimum utilization of Human Resources
We saw an overview of the staffing process; the various steps involved while hiring people for an organization.

We learnt the various factors which affect the number and kind of managers required in an organization. These are- the size of the organization, turnover rate, expansion plans and complexity of the organization structure.We also discussed the management inventory. Employees' basic information, such as their education, experience, talents, age, gender, salary-related data, job choice, and exceptional achievements, are all listed in this inventory. It's an important tool for HR planning and policymaking.
This enables HR managers to make more informed decisions in a variety of areas:
  1. Appointment of the appropriate employee to the appropriate position.
  2. Identifying current skill gaps and enrolling in appropriate training programmes to close the gaps. 
  3. Developing a workforce strategy to meet the company's future demands.
When demand for managers is higher due to favourable external environment conditions such as advanced technology, blooming economy etc, untapped market opportunities, the organization will look for internal and external sources for recruiting more people. We discussed the relationship between demand and supply of managers and factors affecting the same.

To facilitate better understanding we discussed the problems that an organization would face in 2 cases; First come first serve basis and lottery basis among job applicants.
